How about this verse:
1:28 So everywhere we go, we tell everyone about Christ. We warn them and teach them with all the wisdom God has given us, for we want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ.
Everywhere I go do I tell everyone about Christ? Why not? Do I really believe that He alone is the way to heaven? Absolutely! But I fear the enemy has duped us. We listen to his lies (you don't want to push them away) instead of to the instructions of God and being obedient to Him:
2 Corinthians 5:18 And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. 19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. 20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” 21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
Do I really see myself as God's ambassador? No, but that is really who I am.
How about this section?
3:1 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Let heaven fill your thoughts. Do not think only about things down here on earth. 3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.
5 So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy for the good things of this life, for that is idolatry. 6 Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. 7 You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. 8 But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. 9 Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. 10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. 11 In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.
Does heaven fill my thoughts? If it did, I would live differently. Am I idolatrous - greedy for the good things of this life? Unfortunately, yes.
God, thank you for Your word and the conviction it brings. And I realize that it's only by relinquishing my life to the indwelling Christ that I can live a life that will truly honor You. Christ in me, the hope of glory. I don't fully understand what that really means, but I want to. Please reveal that truth deep within my heart and soul.
